Why I’m pro Mastodon
I like to explore interface culture and see how social communities evolve in real time.
I’m unfamiliar with the inner workings of Mastodon at the moment, but like how administrators of each instance are in control and able to govern their community to nurture civility and police the hooligans. I think of it sort of like Slack but with wormholes to connect communities.
I’m still trying to figure out the economics. Seems that each community can work out their own finance strategies to support the instance. Mastodon.social, currently the most popular instance gets support, for now, from Patreon.
The web is very young in historical terms. I think we’ve got at least a century to see how stable social architectures might evolve. Baby steps and patience to find the balance between open, free and fair society (good) and anarchy (bad).
I think I’m going to give Mastodon a chance. Find me at mastodon.social/@scottgruber
