Scott Gruber

Welcome to my website.

My name is Scott and I am a designer, developer and craftsman building an ethical design practice grounded in accessibility, performance and aesthetics.

Thank you for visiting and finding my little corner of the web.

I have twenty years experience working in various media including print, video and the web and worked at UCLA most of my career. I’m a hybrid and a generalist and can do front end and server devops work but mostly love hand crafting CSS. Currently, I work at the UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability.

One of my personal goals is to share with our community which has shared so much with me. So I’ve begun to volunteer my services, teach, and take on public speaking. Last year, I presented over a dozen times at fabulous events like Creative Code Fest LA, UCLA UX Group,, the NASA Space Hackathon at Innovate Pasadena, FwdLabs and WordCamp LAX. I post my talks here my speaker’s site if you’d like to check some out. If you want me to speak at your event please reach out and let me know. I’d like to do more in 2019.

I enjoy volunteer work. I worked with the LA Audubon society to rebuild their website and set them up on G suite. I’m also, starting my third year volunteering at the UCLA Health System Patient Technology Council. It’s a roundtable of patients, doctors, nurses and programmers that serves as a user experience advocacy group.

I care about making websites work for everyone and consider myself an inclusive designer. However, in this ever changing world wide web I’m still learning. This site is my sandbox to play, experiment and explore. Don’t be surprised or upset when things change and break.

If you are interested to learn more about me, check out what I’m doing now.
